Uncool MC is establishing himself in the amapiano genre with his engaging lyrics and dynamic live performances. His rise to fame, however, has included some challenges. In a conversation with The Journalist DJ, the artist from Kwa Thema shared insights into his evolution from a party MC to a notable recording artist.
“I came up like a rapper, but I’m an Amapiano artist,” Uncool MC noted. His journey began with entertaining crowds at parties, where he honed his skills, laying the groundwork for his future as a performer and recording artist.
A turning point in his career occurred when a friend connected him with DJ Maphorisa. “He called me to the studio and said, ‘Come with your A-game.’ That’s exactly what I did—and I didn’t look back,” Uncool recollected. This chance meeting propelled him into the amapiano scene, allowing his distinct voice and songwriting to flourish.
For a long time, fans believed Uncool was from Daveyton, but he has clarified this misconception. “I’m proudly from Kwa Thema in the East Rand,” he stated. “I can’t really explain it, but the East just breeds talent—it’s in our blood.”
As he looks to the future, Uncool MC remains focused on advancing his career. He is preparing for Sun-Daze Presents Summer Daze, a showcase set for 5 October in Kwa Thema, Springs. This event aims to celebrate his artistry and support fellow local talent.
He also alluded to upcoming projects, mentioning, “Maybe an EP before the end of the year or early next year,” while remaining tight-lipped about specifics. When asked about potential collaborators, Uncool suggested exciting surprises but withheld names. “I’m big on collaboration. I work with a lot of people. You’ll see. I can’t name drop right now, but just know it’s going to be fire.”
