Kelly Khumalo’s son Christian wants to drop-out from school
South African musician Kelly Khumalo has shared news that her son, Christian Khumalo, is contemplating leaving school.
This announcement came during her appearance on The L-Tido Podcast, where she openly discussed her opinions on the education system in the country.
Kelly criticized the system for being “very systematic” and alleged it does not equip students with practical skills for life.
“To them, the only form of success is education. It is very systematic,” she stated, noting that many graduates enter the job market yet find themselves unemployed.
She expressed her belief that if educational institutions emphasized business acumen and entrepreneurship, young individuals would have a greater chance for success.
The acclaimed artist, who herself left school, noted that she was not surprised when Christian, her child with rapper Jub Jub, indicated his disinterest in continuing his studies.
“I realised that maybe as a mom I need to create a better structure than what I was given,” she remarked.
“When he said that, I saw myself. That is the power of the tongue. I always told myself that I would not raise children who would be part of the system. The system is very flawed.”
Her statements have sparked varied responses on social media, with some supporters agreeing that conventional education is restrictive, while others insisted that schooling is essential for every child’s future.
