Nafiz Modack Found Guilty of Corruption, Sentencing Delayed Until 2025
Alleged underworld kingpin Nafiz Modack was found guilty of corruption by the Cape Town Regional Court, following a confession from former Brigadier Kolindren Govender about their corrupt dealings. In 2011, Modack paid Govender nearly R150,000 for preferential treatment. Govender faced 51 corruption charges and received a five-year sentence, while Modack’s sentencing is set for July 8, 2025.
Nafiz Modack’s Guilty Verdict
The Cape Town Regional Court has found alleged underworld kingpin Nafiz Modack guilty of corruption. This verdict stems from extensive investigations by the Hawks into Modack’s activities.
Hawks spokesperson Zinzi Hani confirmed that Modack was linked to corrupt practices involving former Brigadier Kolindren Govender, who reportedly accepted bribes from him.
In November 2011, Modack allegedly paid nearly R150,000 to Govender for preferential treatment. The case against Modack is scheduled for sentencing on July 8, 2025.
Former Brigadier’s Corruption Confession
Former Brigadier Kolindren Govender pled guilty to 51 charges of corruption involving an alleged relationship with Nafiz Modack. His admission has fueled ongoing investigations.
Govender was sentenced to five years, with four and a half years suspended, mandated to avoid further corruption convictions. His sentence is concurrent with a six-year term from another case.
Hani emphasized the importance of this case, noting that it highlights the serious ramifications of corruption within law enforcement. ‘No one is above the law,’ she stated.
