Stilo Magolide on Riky Rick’s death
Rapper Stilo Magolide has shared his thoughts on the tragic loss of his friend, Riky Rick. He admitted that while the news was heartbreaking, it did not catch him entirely off guard.
In a discussion on The 3rd Element of Hip Hop Podcast with DJ Lemonka, Stilo spoke about the late Boss Zonke artist and why he had a feeling that Riky might one day take such a drastic step.
“I did believe it. I wasn’t shocked,” Stilo stated. “I was more like, ‘Oh snap. I didn’t expect it to come this soon, but I always expected it.’ Just the type of person he was, you know? He was always someone who wanted to live life on his own terms. Everything he did was his way.”
Riky Rick, whose real name was Rikhado Muziwendlovu Makhado, died by suicide on February 23, 2022.
The acclaimed rapper was a key figure in South African hip hop and a founding member of the Boyz n Bucks group, which included Stilo Magolide and other notable artists.
In reflecting on Riky’s death, Stilo mentioned that while he wasn’t surprised, the event still caused him significant emotional pain.
“I was just more disappointed that maybe the people around him at the time didn’t have the strength to hold him much longer or convince him that we still had more time,” he added. “There’s things to do, you know?”
A brief excerpt from this interview gained rapid attention online, leading to a variety of discussions.
Many social media users commended Stilo for being open and sincere, while others suggested that he might have more insight into Riky Rick’s last moments than he disclosed.
