Tete Dijana Claims Third Comrades Marathon Title with Dominant Performance

South African ultramarathon runner Tete Dijana claimed victory at the 2025 Comrades Marathon held on June 11, racing from Pietermaritzburg to Durban. This win marks his third consecutive title, following triumphs in 2022 and 2023, as he finished with a time of 5:25:22, narrowly beating Dutchman Piet Wiersma by eleven seconds.

Tete Dijana’s Historic Victory

Tete Dijana has reportedly claimed his third Comrades Marathon title, triumphing over the challenging 89.98 km route from Pietermaritzburg to Durban. His time is yet to be officially confirmed.

Crossing the finish line in a spectacular fashion, Dijana finished with an alleged time of 5 hours, 25 minutes, and 22 seconds, narrowly beating Dutchman Piet Wiersma by eleven seconds.

Post-race, Dijana expressed his gratitude: “I am incredibly proud to achieve this hat-trick. Each race has its own challenges, but today was special.”

Gerda Steyn’s Continued Dominance

In the women’s competition, Gerda Steyn celebrated her fourth victory in the Comrades Marathon, finishing the race in 5 hours, 51 minutes, and 19 seconds. This marks another significant achievement.

Despite her win, Steyn’s time was reportedly slower than her own down run record set in 2023 by over six minutes, highlighting the challenging race conditions.

Steyn remarked on her victory, stating, “Every year brings new challenges. I’m thrilled to continue my journey with this win, though the clock was not my best today.”
