Mzansi Reacts as Black Coffee Sues Nota Baloyi
- A court has mandated that Nota Baloyi publicly apologise to DJ Black Coffee following a dispute involving defamatory allegations
- This decision follows an urgent request by Black Coffee, who claimed Nota made unfounded connections between him and alleged criminal activities
- As he plans to appeal the decision, Nota’s case has sparked intense discussions on social media
A court has ordered Nota Baloyi to make a public apology to DJ Black Coffee, ruling in favour of the renowned artist after a contentious legal case regarding defamatory remarks.
The disputes between the two have led to a long-standing feud in which Black Coffee took legal action against Nota, who has critiqued the DJ for assumed financial improprieties in various social media messages.
Sunday World mentioned that the ruling was issued by acting judge Gian Louw during a virtual hearing on Tuesday, 2 December 2025.
Nkosinathi Maphumulo, known as Black Coffee, reportedly filed an urgent application to prevent Nota from making further claims linking him to criminal behaviour. His assertion was that these statements were defamatory and damaging to his reputation, resulting in a penalty of R25,000.
In some deleted Twitter (X) posts, Nota questioned the DJ’s recent purchase of a lavish home, wondering about the source of his financial ability to buy it.
Sunday World also revealed that Nota intends to challenge the ruling and maintains he did not accuse Black Coffee of any criminal acts.
Nota further claimed that the DJ utilized his status and wealth to intimidate those around him, including Nota’s family.
He alleged that Black Coffee called his mother to pressure him into silence, which he described as a form of harassment; however, this assertion requires further validation. Nota has countered with a R25,000 claim against Black Coffee for the distress allegedly inflicted on his mother.
Additionally, Nota requested that the court restrict the DJ from contacting his family. The unfolding legal drama has drawn mixed reactions online.
