This announcement was made on Monday, December 22, 2025, following a focused effort by Gauteng police to locate those responsible for the DJ’s death, which occurred on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, in Johannesburg’s CBD.
<p footage of the announcement by SAPS spokesperson Athlenda Mathe soon circulated on social media, evoking a wave of responses from the public.
In a video posted by Newszroom Afrika, Mathe indicated that while two people were being questioned by detectives, formal arrests had not yet taken place.
She elaborated that the investigation aimed to establish whether sufficient evidence existed to proceed with charges against the individuals.
“We can recall that the national commissioner committed that there would be a breakthrough by Monday,” Mathe stated.
“In this particular case, we can confirm that Gauteng police, led by Lieutenant General Mthombeni, have taken two suspects in for questioning.”
She emphasized that the investigation remains in its initial phases.
“We have not arrested them; it’s just questioning this morning, and they are being questioned by our detectives. They will then provide us with an update on whether they will make the necessary arrests,” she mentioned.
Mathe also acknowledged the hard work of the provincial team, saying, “For now, I can confirm the two people are being questioned on the DJ Warras case. Kudos to the Gauteng police for working extra hard.”
This update follows a public assurance from National Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola, who had expressed optimism about progress in the case over the recent weekend.
Although the news of questioning has sparked renewed optimism, many users on social media are still eager for concrete arrests and justice for the murdered DJ.
