Kelvin Momo
Amapiano artist Kelvin Momo was unable to perform at the highly anticipated OR Tambo Homage Concert in Mbizana, Eastern Cape, due to multiple flight delays preventing his timely arrival at the event.
His absence disappointed both organizers and attendees at the celebration aimed at honoring liberation leader Oliver Tambo and the late DJ Volo Da Saint.
Originally scheduled as a key performer, Momo found himself stranded hundreds of kilometers away as travel disruptions plagued his itinerary.
Regardless, the concert proceeded without him, although it fell short of the celebratory spirit intended for the night, which also had profound historical relevance.
This incident has reignited discussions regarding the artist’s reliability, following previous missed performances this year.
In May, Kelvin Momo also did not take the stage at Café 69, Piano Hub, and Makubenjalo, with those cancellations being linked to unforeseen health issues.
A statement from the artist and his management noted that Kelvin Momo missed his flight due to unexpected traffic delays while heading to the airport.
A backup flight was booked to address the situation, but additional delays ultimately prevented him from reaching Mbizana in time for his performance.
“We fully acknowledge the importance and significance of the OR Tambo Homage Concert, and we understand how meaningful this event was to the organisers, partners, and attendees,” read the statement.
“Kelvin and his entire team extend their deepest and most sincere apologies to the event organisers and to everyone who was looking forward to his performance.”
The message emphasized that the concert held greater significance than just a usual gig.
“This situation was deeply disappointing for Kelvin. He holds the legacy being honoured and the people of Bizana in the highest regard. We appreciate the understanding shown and remain committed to making amends where possible.”
