  • The Tactical Response Unit in Johannesburg apprehended a well-known suspect filmed stealing a woman’s phone in a viral TikTok clip.
  • Podcast celebrity Sol Phenduka shared the news via retweet, adding his humorous take: “Great work. Isela lama cell belongs in one.”
  • Online users applauded Sol’s clever wordplay, connecting the thief, cellphones, and prison cells, leading to laughter and approval across social media platforms.

Mzansi expressed relief as law enforcement acted against a brazen cellphone thief whose actions garnered attention online.

The event, seen in a TikTok video from December 29, 2025, depicted a man following a woman dressed in white near a parking area, swiftly seizing her phone mid-conversation before escaping.

The widely shared footage shed light on the persistent problem of cellphone theft in crowded urban areas.

The Public Safety MMC of Johannesburg announced the arrest via X, revealing that the Tactical Response Unit (TRU) successfully tracked down the perpetrator in Hillbrow.

The post included a video and image of the arrest and stated:

“Swift, decisive action has been taken. Lawlessness will not be tolerated.”

Previously, Phenduka had shared another pun related to the same event, earning recognition for his ability to craft quick, entertaining remarks that go viral.

His latest comment offered a fresh perspective on a serious crime while praising law enforcement’s efforts.
