Kiernan Jarryd Forbes, born on January 28, 1988, transcended Johannesburg’s artistic circles to become a major voice in African hip-hop. He was affectionately known to fans as Supa Mega or Bhova, establishing a legacy defined by incisive lyrics, captivating charisma, and unyielding ambition.
His notable albums, such as Altar Ego (2011), Levels (2014), Be Careful What You Wish For (2017), Touch My Blood (2018), and the posthumous Mass Country, produced iconic tracks like “Victory Lap,” “Congratulate,” “Run Jozi (Godly),” and “Fela In Versace.”
Through these works, he intertwined South African culture with global influences, garnering multiple accolades, awards, and a devoted fan base known as the Megacy. Sadly, Forbes’ life was tragically cut short on February 10, 2023, when he was fatally shot outside a restaurant in Durban at age 35 along with his close friend, Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane. This shocking event sparked widespread sorrow and renewed demands for justice against gun violence. In the time since, his cultural significance has continued to grow.
His music remains prevalent on various playlists, inspiring emerging artists and providing soundtracks for celebrations, resilience, and reflection for countless listeners. Family members, including his mother, Lynn Forbes, have frequently mentioned how specific songs help keep his memory alive and bring solace. On this occasion, fans again took to social media to share tributes, memories, and videos, playing his classic hits and uniting under the message: #LongLiveSupaMega.
