VfL Wolfsburg has announced through their official X account that sporting director Peter Christiansen has been relieved of his duties effective immediately after the team’s 1–2 loss to Hamburger SV on March 7, 2026.
Softfootball reports that this decision was made as Wolfsburg grapples with poor performances in the Bundesliga, currently positioned at risk of relegation with only 18 points from 24 matches.
The loss against Hamburg heightened the pressure on the club’s management, prompting the board to act swiftly.
They stated:
VfL Wolfsburg parts ways with Peter Christiansen. The 51-year-old was relieved of his duties as sporting director and placed on leave following the match against Hamburger SV. We thank you for your dedication to our club and wish you all the best for your future, Peter! #VfLWolfsburg
Christiansen, who took up the position at Wolfsburg in the summer of 2023, was involved in several significant signings, including Danish forward Jonas Wind.
However, the club faced criticism for defensive lapses and inconsistent displays under various coaching regimes, drawing attention from both fans and officials.

This change indicates a significant restructuring as the club seeks to stabilize its season and evade relegation.
In other news, Manchester City advanced to the FA Cup quarter-finals following a 3–1 win against Newcastle United at St James’ Park on March 7, 2026.
Omar Marmoush was instrumental in the second half, scoring shortly after halftime and then delivering a remarkable 25-yard goal in the 65th minute. Fans have praised Marmoush and Savinho performances after Man City FA Cup Win.
This victory came on the heels of City’s recent 1–0 win over Leeds United, which featured a game-winning goal from Antoine Semenyo.
