Recently, Edwin van der Sar was a guest on The Overlap podcast, as mentioned on their official Twitter account. During the episode, the renowned goalkeeper was invited to create his ultimate five-a-side team made up of Dutch players, featuring some of the country’s football legends.

“What’s your ultimate five-a-side team, but Dutch? Your ultimate Dutch five-a-side team.”
“Frank Rijkaard, Dennis Bergkamp, Edgar Davids, and Frank de Boer. Johan Cruyff. That’s four.”
“Johan Cruyff… what about Van Basten, Gullit?”
“Jeez, you missed that.”
“You need also a midfielder and a defender. You picked four, by the way. That’s four. So who have we got? Johan Cruyff… Johan Cruyff…”
“Bergkamp. Did I say Frank de Boer? Frank de Boer. Edgar Davids.”
“Davids. There you go. You got them. Well done.”

Van der Sar selected Frank de Boer to serve as the defensive cornerstone, commending his ability to play the ball effectively from defense. Alongside him was Frank Rijkaard, celebrated for his strength and leadership, which he displayed equally in midfield and defense.
To add energy and drive to the team, Van der Sar chose Edgar Davids, known for his tenacious playing style, earning him the nickname “The Pitbull” throughout his career.
