Lille OSC announced through their official X account that midfielder Andre Gomes has left the club to join Columbus Crew in Major League Soccer following a mutual agreement to end his contract. Reports from Softfootball confirm this news.
The club stated:
By mutual agreement, André Gomes has recently joined Columbus Crew. We wish André all the best for the rest of his career and would like to thank him for his exemplary conduct throughout his time at LOSC
This year has been challenging for Lille, marked by moments such as when Paris Saint-Germain secured a decisive 3–0 victory over them, showcasing the difficulties the team has encountered in the Ligue 1 season.
The announcement of Gomes’ exit included an emotional image of the Portuguese midfielder sharing a moment with teammate Ismaïla Mandi on the pitch, reflecting the strong bonds he formed during his tenure at the club. Gomes first joined Lille on loan in 2022 and made a permanent move in 2024 after performing well in his initial stint.

However, this season saw limited action for the former FC Barcelona and Everton FC player, who only featured in 15 league matches. This limited participation led to the decision to mutually agree on the termination of his contract.
Gomes has since signed a contract with Columbus Crew, which will run until June 2027, with an option for extension, providing him a new chance to rejuvenate his career in the United States.
In other developments, former England international Ashley Cole has been appointed head coach of Cesena FC in Italy’s Serie B.
