  • The Limpopo artist Shebeshxt was seen in the Polokwane Magistrates’ Court on Friday, March 27, 2026
  • Mashudu Malabi-Dzhangi, spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority, stated that Shebeshxt has made alterations to his legal representation amid recent developments in his case
  • Public responses on social media were mixed, with some supporters advocating for his freedom while others felt he should remain incarcerated

The ongoing legal situation surrounding the contentious Limpopo musician Shebeshxt has seen a significant development.

Lehlogonolo “Shebeshxt” Chauke appeared in the Polokwane Magistrates’ Court on March 27, 2026.

At the hearing, the Rato Laka performer disclosed that he had terminated his relationship with his former attorney, who had failed to obtain bail for him on two occasions since his arrest on November 12, 2025.

New legal representative to pursue bail

Mashudu Malabi-Dzhangi, the spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority, confirmed that Shebeshxt had replaced Mr. Lot Ramusi and appointed attorney Michael Khumalo as his new legal counsel.

Blogger Crime Watch SA indicated that Khumalo plans to submit a new bail application based on newly available information.

Shebeshxt remains in custody following his court appearance. The case has also been moved to the Polokwane regional court, where Shebeshxt is slated to reappear on May 15, 2026.

The following was noted in a social media post regarding the case:

“[REMAINS IN CUSTODY] The accused, popular Limpopo musician Lehlogonolo Katlego Chauke (30), known by his stage name Shebe Maburna, has appointed a new attorney. The attorney would like to approach the court for bail on new facts. The matter is transferred to the Polokwane Regional Court on May 15, 2026. The accused remains in custody.”

Public reactions to Shebeshxt’s decision to change lawyers

In response to the news, some of Shebeshxt’s supporters called for his release, arguing that keeping him in jail was unjust. They compared his situation to that of a businessman facing murder charges who was granted bail.

Some voices in the discussion included:

@wakapalesaa posed the question:

“So, bo KT molefe got bail for a high-profile murder case, and Shebe can’t for attempted murder? Make it make sense, please? Is our justice system really about the crime committed or the pockets produced?”

@AsaManoo remarked:

“He’s a serious threat to himself and to society. It’s about time he faced harsh consequences and learned a brutal lesson. He’s been out of control for far too long, acting like he rules this generation. Keep him locked away until 2040; he’s earned every single year of it.”

@Shiax25 predicted:

“They will drain him of all his savings. By the time he wakes up, he will be having a useless drunk lawyer who will send him to the dogs.”

@BJNet53 noted:

“His foolishness got him in jail, and now he is fighting tooth and nail to get out.”

@Masiprince commented:

“He’s been put in the slow cooker judicial route, shem. He’ll come out singing Gospel.”
