Protecting Innocence: Black Coffee’s Heartfelt Response to Viral Criticism

Legal Showdown: Black Coffee Takes Nota to Court Over Defamation Allegations

Grammy award-winning DJ and producer, Black Coffee (known as Nkosinathi Maphumulo), made a public plea to online critics, urging them to refrain from making negative remarks about his children.

In a brief post on X, he stated that criticism directed at him is acceptable; however, he draws a line when it comes to his kids.

“Troll me, demonise me all you want until maybe you feel better about yourself, but please, please leave my kids out of it,” he wrote.

The DJ has recently been in the spotlight following his extravagant three-day birthday celebration in Cape Town to mark his milestone 50th birthday.

The festivities began with a private boat cruise and dinner with family and friends, followed by a lavish gala dinner that featured both international and local celebrities on the second day.

The third day continued the celebrations with guests attending Casa Coffee, a daytime event featuring performances from DJ Tira, DJ Maphoria, DJ Bubbles as well as Coffee.

<spanAs photos shared by attendees began to spread online, initial expressions of admiration soon turned into backlash.

Critics on social media began to label the celebrations as “too grand” and expressed dissatisfaction towards the guestlist, the speech given by his girlfriend, the gala’s decor, and shared images of his five children.

Many users on social media were surprised to learn that Black Coffee has five children, having previously thought he had only three.

This is not the first instance in which Coffee has reached out on social media to ask for the privacy of his children.

In 2025, following the conclusion of his divorce from Enhle Mbali Mlotshwa, which gained significant traction online, he made a similar request asking individuals to refrain from posting images of his children.

“I understand that you people believe everything you read, and that’s fine. As a father, I have one request. Please stop posting my children on your socials,” he stated.

Posting photos of children without permission or making negative remarks online can be distressing, and this applies to public figures as well.

Despite his appeals, some followers responded to his latest post, suggesting that no one was targeting his children, but rather him.

“I have not seen a single post bashing kids, people are just bashing you,” @Mopediii shared in the comments.

“When you post your family on social media, you must be ready for uncultured and unhappy fools to take out their anger on them, some of us learned the hard way,” @Mfoka_Jobe remarked.

“Who bashed your beautiful children? Absolutely no one. It’s the philandering ways that have been frowned upon,” @BabablacksheepK added.
