While Turkey may not immediately come to mind on a typical island list, Jones and Potelwa found that Antalya boasts a picturesque setting that competes with the globe’s most renowned archipelagos.
First impressions always count. What surprised you most about Antalya when you arrived?
It’s absolutely picturesque! I honestly didn’t anticipate it! It resembles the painted backgrounds of our home mountains, enveloping you in beauty. Another surprise was the vibrant culture and the pride the locals take in their heritage and history.
When one thinks island paradise, Turkey isn’t a destination that comes to mind. Tell us a little bit more about Antalya’s island feel.
I can sincerely say that Turkey has now made my list when it comes to that island vibe and paradise! The beaches are pristine, and the water is incredibly clear. What enhances the experience is the water temperature—it’s just right, neither too cold nor too warm. Furthermore, hidden caves and nearby islands filled with intriguing histories add even more charm.
Antalya is known for its mix of beach and history. How did that contrast shape your experience?
The historical aspect of these islands was what fascinated me the most. There’s this one small island featuring a freshwater spring right at its center, despite being enveloped by saltwater, which is astonishing. Long ago, travelers would stop there to collect drinking water. It was hard to fathom until our guide brought us there, and we tasted it firsthand. Honestly, it was the best water I’ve ever experienced.
If you had 24 hours to help a friend truly experience Antalya, what would your itinerary look like?
To start, we’d feast on doner kebabs. Afterwards, we’d stroll through the Old Town, checking out the stunning ruins, and finally, we’d wrap up the day with a sunset cruise where we could swim in the sea while a chef cooks fresh fish for us on board.
You’re a massive foodie as well! Tell us a little bit about the food you ate on the trip.
While in Turkey, my focus was singular: doner kebabs! I can’t get enough of them. Additionally, we enjoyed amazing seafood lunches on the boats, expertly prepared by local chefs. After this trip, Turkish cuisine undoubtedly ranks among my top five.
You’re an avid traveller. Besides Turkey, what have been some of your favourite destinations?
That’s right! Traveling is a passion of mine, and I’ve been fortunate enough to explore some wonderful locations. Apart from Turkey, my favorite places include China, Greece, Spain, and Mozambique.
Why do you think Antalya is the perfect setting for the next season of Tropika Island Of Treasure?
Antalya is an ideal location due to its stunning beaches. I can already envision thrilling water challenges along the coast, mixed with puzzle challenges inspired by the city’s rich past. Running through ancient ruins would feel cinematic. The visuals are breathtaking. Antalya truly has everything.
Tell us a little bit about your experience as a contestant on Tropika Island Of Treasure last season.
Although it was brief, I can certainly say it was among the best experiences I’ve had in my life. Traveling to a different country, experiencing diverse cultures, and competing for R1 million is truly extraordinary. I also formed great bonds with fellow contestants and celebrities, many of whom I still keep in touch with. The journey really challenged me to step outside my comfort zone as I’m just a TikTok guy trying to dance!
