Musician Fuego is dead

The South African musician Adifele Lastborn Maimela, known professionally as Fuego (Baswele Mfana), was reported dead after being shot on Tuesday, April 7, 2026.

The news of his death quickly spread across social media platforms, with many users expressing their shock and sorrow.

One message stated: “RIP to Adifele Lastborn Maimela, also known as Fuego. Ba swele mfan.”

This tragic event was confirmed by his manager, Potego Nkgadima, who released a statement expressing grief over the loss of the talented musician.

“We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our artist, Adifele Lastborn Maimela, also known as Fuego (Baswele Mafana), who tragically lost his life in an unfortunate incident,” he stated.

Details surrounding the circumstances of the incident remain limited, but early reports indicate it might have involved a love triangle dispute.

Fuego’s passing adds to the sadness in the Limpopo music scene, which has already faced loss with the death of DJ Poizen in a car accident in 2025.

As awareness of his death grew, fans and fellow musicians took to social media to honor Fuego, celebrating his contributions to the Lekompo genre and the influence he had throughout his career.
