During a heartfelt interview on Wednesday, April 8, Lynn Forbes, mother of the late AKA, shared her thoughts on nearly everything concerning her son on L-Tido’s podcast.
L-Tido mentioned that it was Lynn who contacted him because she felt that “stuff had to be said,” and she certainly had a lot to share!
It was really nice and considerate of L-Tido to don a pair of AKA’s sneakers from the 2024 Reebok collection, particularly since Lynn was present and AKA was his inaugural guest on the podcast.
He remarked, “It’s the first time I’m wearing these shoes out. [but] I had to wear them today”.
AKA’S MOTHER SHARED HER TRUTH ON L-TIDO’S PODCAST
In March 2026, Nadia Nakai, AKA’s last girlfriend, conveyed her desire to move forward and seek new love, stating, “I don’t want to love a ghost.”
Her statement suggested a desire to close the chapter on AKA following his tragic passing in February 2023.
While some considered her phrasing of AKA as a ghost to be somewhat insensitive, Lynn, who is acquainted with Nadia, clarified that she took no offense to her remark and they “had a good laugh [about it].”
“Nadia and I had a good laugh… I know Nadia, so I’m like, okay, don’t worry about it. It’s fine. They don’t understand you,” Lynn commented.
LYNN FORBES: ‘MY SON LITERALLY LOOKED AFTER ME’
It was clear that AKA had no reservations about shouldering his considerable responsibilities toward his beloved mother.
Lynn disclosed that the Baddest artist provided her a monthly allowance, stating, “I depended on my son for a lot of things.”
“My son literally looked after me. I mean, he was my bank. Kiernan and I had a life together. I depended on my son for a lot of things, for the roof over my head, for the food on my table,” she expressed.
‘IN FACT, IT’S ME’
Have you ever wondered who manages AKA’s social media accounts? The answer is Lynn herself. Though she collaborates with a team, she takes the lead on what gets published.
One of the more frustrating comments she receives in DMs is people suggesting, “let the guy rest” or “they’re milking him.” Nonetheless, Lynn maintains a respectable viewpoint.
This was in context to the recent merchandise, which features quality t-shirts, hoodies, and other items.
“Whatever comes out on the AKA social media pages is approved by the family. It’s us. In fact, it’s me.”
“There’s [There are] two streams here. There’s Kiernan, the family member, and there’s AKA, who’s a brand and a business. And that business continues… we have a legacy to take forward,” she asserted.
‘I LITERALLY SCREAMED’
During the ongoing Madlanga Commission inquiry, CCTV footage of AKA and his former manager, Tebello Tibz Motsoane, being shot was shown.
Lynn expressed her dismay, stating that had she known that the video would be presented, she wouldn’t have chosen to watch the trial at all.
“This video came from a different angle, and it was something I didn’t expect to see [while] watching the Madlanga Commission,” she remarked.
“I literally screamed; I was in tears. It was very traumatising. I wish they could have informed us that we’re going to show the AKA murder, then I probably wouldn’t have watched it,” she added.
‘CASSPER CAME TO SEE US’
The rivalry between AKA and Cassper was one of the most notable in the South African entertainment scene.
Nonetheless, this did not stop the Tito Mboweni artist from offering his sympathies to the Forbes family.
“When Kiernan died, Cassper came to see us. He brought his condolences.
‘HE PAID FOR A HEART TRANSPLANT’
“I had somebody that [who] reached out to say that Kiernan paid for a heart transplant,” Lynn disclosed.
At the beginning of the interview, Lynn mentioned feeling anxious, but she expressed her truth to the best of her ability.
L-Tido also conducted the conversation with great skill, posing pertinent questions while remaining professional.
