From Johannesburg to Los Angeles, DJ Shimza (full name Kholofelo Ashley Raphala) is proudly showcasing South Africa’s music talent.
The well-known producer and Kunye innovator recently made his debut on the stage of the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, achieving a significant milestone in his international music career.
Shimza shared the stage with celebrated Dutch DJ Afrojack (real name Nick van de Wall) during a back-to-back performance at the Quasar Stage at Coachella 2026.
Taking place annually at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California, the festival is recognized for its desert environment, varied musical acts, and substantial art displays, drawing more than 100,000 visitors each day.
After his performance, Shimza expressed his appreciation on Instagram.
“🙏🏾❤️ beyond grateful @afrojack @coachella,” he wrote.
“Sometimes we think our stories need to be something we’ve seen happen, trust me, it’s not like that, every story has its own story, meaning and purpose 🙏🏾,” he added.
His followers and fellow artists quickly flooded the comments with admiration.
Lady Du remarked: “We are proud of you as a country.”
Tbo Touch noted: “Come on Bro🔥🔥🔥🔥.”
Nandi Madida expressed: “To the top! 👏.”
@kavirmagan commented: “Super proud of you brother Ashley, from Tembisa to Coachella and the World. 2026 is yours. Day 1 ❤️🙌.”
This marked Shimza’s first Coachella experience, where he was the sole representative from South Africa on the 2026 roster.
Prior to the show, Afrojack took him in for two days, where they worked together in studio sessions to prepare for their performance.
Shimza was accompanied by Victor and Junior RSA as part of his support team for the festival.
Other African artists featured at Coachella 2026 included Davido, Wizkid, Tems, Adekunle Gold, and ECool.
Festival tickets sold out in less than a week, with general admission prices ranging from $549 to $649 (approximately R9000 to R10, 700) and VIP tickets priced between $1,199 and $1,399 (around R20,000 to R23,000).
