Mamelodi Sundowns are making significant efforts to advance and are drawing inspiration from Germany.
The Betway Premiership team has dispatched club icon Surprise Moriri to RB Leipzig to gain valuable insights into player development and advanced technology.
This trip comes shortly after Moriri’s appointment as the technical director of the club based in Chloorkop. During his visit, he toured Leipzig’s modern facilities, observing the methodologies employed by one of Europe’s leading clubs in nurturing top talent.
Leipzig employs a model that emphasizes data analysis alongside specialized training areas, focusing on meticulousness, innovation, and strategic planning for future growth.
“Today we saw how they develop players technically,” Moriri stated. “They have a technological area where they make sure players improve their skills at a very high level.”
The framework established by Leipzig has already yielded exceptional players, including the likes of Josko Gvardiol, Christopher Nkunku, Dominik Szoboszlai, Benjamin Sesko, and Dayot Upamecano, all of whom have excelled on the global stage.
This initiative represents more than a mere visit for Sundowns; it signifies a deliberate effort to align with the standards of European and Bundesliga clubs, with the goal of enhancing their own operations and maintaining a leading position both domestically and continentally.
Fans will not have to wait long for the fruits of this partnership to become evident.
Sundowns are scheduled to compete against Leipzig in an exciting friendly match at Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville, Pretoria, on 29 May—a game expected to highlight the shared aspirations and innovative spirit of both teams.
