Makhudu Sefara, the editor of the suspended Sunday Times, has resigned from his position as chair of the South African National Editors’ Forum (SANEF). This decision follows a statement from the Special Investigating Unit that included accusations of fund misappropriation involving him and others.
SANEF held a meeting this evening, allowing Sefara the chance to share his account of the situation.
While he refuted the claims against him, he chose to resign.
Tshamano Makhadi, the deputy chair, has stepped in as the acting chair.
SANEF announced that it has engaged an independent legal team to evaluate the evidence and provide a report promptly.
