Julius Malema Pursues R1 Million Damages and Retraction from Ngizwe Mchunu

Malema Calls for Bafana Bafana to Boycott 2026 World Cup

The legal team of EFF President Julius Sello Malema has submitted an official legal request to Ngizwe Mchunu.

This action stems from remarks made during an interview on 28 April 2026 that were later shared on social media. Mchunu made the unfounded claim that Malema received R60 million from a Nigerian drug trafficker and is involved in shielding undocumented immigrants for political gain, as well as engaging in corrupt activities.

“These remarks are untrue, malicious, and damaging to his reputation as a Member of Parliament and political leader. We demand a retraction, public apology, press statement, and R1,000,000 in damages within 24 hours, failing which legal action may be instituted,” noted the statement.

<p:Mchunu, known for his activism and previous role at Ukhozi FM, accused Malema of taking the R60 million in exchange for political protection offered to illegal foreigners. These allegations were made during a protest near the Union Buildings in Pretoria on Tuesday.

He suggested that Malema’s strong support for African immigrants, particularly Nigerians, stems from this supposed financial arrangement, implying it explains the EFF leader’s willingness to jeopardize his political career for the sake of these undocumented individuals.

These claims were captured in a widely-shared video on X (formerly Twitter), resulting in a swift reaction from Malema, who remarked: “Ndaa, when and where did he say that?” This response has been viewed as a call for proof, with numerous EFF supporters encouraging Malema to file defamation charges against Mchunu.
