Charlize Theron’s childhood residence has been renovated into a holiday home, offering tourists a glimpse into the early life of the Academy Award-winning actress.
Located in Rynfield, Benoni, the house, now named Imbasa Accommodation, was acquired in 2015 by Dirk Eloff and Vaughn Grobler, who transformed it into a self-catering venue with multiple units, a swimming pool, and a generous outdoor entertainment area.
This site has gained significant tourist interest, largely due to a handwritten message from the famous actress, which states, “All the best, Charlize Theron.”
In 2017, Grobler shared with Benoni City Times that guests were particularly excited to see the actress’s statement, noting it was a primary attraction for visitors.
“When guests come in, the first thing they want to do is take a selfie at the autograph.”
They later learned that it was the childhood home of the Monster actress, a discovery made months after acquiring the property, when they found the letter now displayed in the reception area.
Grobler expressed a desire for Theron to visit the lodge and see how it has been revitalized.
“We would love for her to come out and see that at least there is something positive about the house she grew up in, because after they moved there, there has been nothing but bad news.”

What occurred at Charlize Theron’s childhood home?
In an interview with the New York Times on April 18, Theron recounted a traumatic experience in which her mother, Gerda, shot and killed her father, Charles, in their residence.
At 15 years old, Theron witnessed her father, who was heavily intoxicated, attacking both her and her mother. Charles, along with his brother, had arrived and quickly began firing at them.
“He shot through the steel doors to get in, making it very clear that he was going to kill us. My mother came into my bedroom. The two of us were holding the door with our bodies because there wasn’t a lock on it, and he just stepped back and started shooting through the door.”
Reflecting on the 1991 incident, she remarked, “The messaging was very clear: ‘I’m going to kill you tonight.’
The actress, who recently delivered a powerful speech at the 2026 Winter Olympics, explained that her mother shot her uncle in the hand before fatally shooting her father in a desperate act of self-defense.
Theron disclosed that the incident was triggered when she entered the house in search of a bathroom without greeting everyone, infuriating her father.
In 2012, Barry Newland, who had transformed the property into a car sales business, was killed on the same property by intruders.
Despite its troubled history, Charlize Theron’s former home has undergone a significant revival.
Charlize Theron’s childhood residence has been completely revamped and has become a popular destination for visitors. Previously, it was known for the tragic events that occurred within its walls.
