A police officer, 48, is scheduled to face the Gilead Periodical Court on Monday (04 May 2026) due to a charge of corruption.
This individual was taken into custody by the Limpopo Anti-Corruption Unit on Wednesday following a complaint raised by a member of the Gilead Taxi Association in the Waterberg District.
The provincial police reported that the officer demanded R15,000.00 in cash from taxi operators in the region who lacked the necessary documentation.
Police stated that the Provincial Anti-Corruption Unit organized in-person transactions between the Taxi Association and the officer on Thursday.
The officer was arrested immediately upon receiving the payment.
Provincial Police Commissioner Lt General Thembi Hadebe has voiced her significant concern regarding the officer’s actions.
