Mzansi Magic has revealed its commitment to nurturing local talent through the introduction of new mini-series for the network.
This announcement was made during the unveiling of ten upcoming shows that will debut next month, following the recent finish of two major productions.
As reported by a KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) newspaper, Shirley Adonisi, who oversees Local Entertainment Channels at MultiChoice, emphasized that these shows are produced by youth-owned companies and feature a mix of seasoned actors and fresh faces.
The ten shows are planned to air over ten weeks, starting on May 11 and wrapping up in July. “We are launching these shows with great excitement, especially since the channel recently introduced two programs that viewers have thoroughly enjoyed: The Makhenes and Mgidi Moms.”
Fans of Isithembu SikaMsongelwa can also look forward to its return, with expectations that the second season will mirror the success of its predecessor,” Adonisi noted.
“We thank all the companies that have partnered with us in launching these shows. We believe their future in this industry is bright, and we look forward to seeing them produce major, long-running series for us in the future.” Adonisi further explained that viewers are increasingly interested in shorter series, which has led the channel to prioritize this format for now—an approach they plan to maintain.
“Long-running shows tend to eventually lose viewer interest; therefore, creating smaller productions that reach a resolution quickly is a strategy that works well for us,” she clarified. Notable titles among the new offerings include Love At Second Sight, featuring Amanda Seome, Nduduzo Zuma, Aluve Mjali, and Nimrod Nkosi.
Another new series, Kuningi, will showcase actors Samkelo Ndlovu, Kay Sibiya, Simphiwe Ngema, Andy Mnguni, and Ratanang Mogotsi. Additional upcoming shows include Amanzi Endlini, Ke Nyala Jwang?, Lobola lama 2000, and Mamfundisi Bae.
The production companies involved in these projects include Ngomoya Films, Weldun Media, Pula Bakgaga, Behind the Best, and Mthakathi Entertainment.
