According to reports from Softfootball, Eric Chelle, the manager of the Super Eagles, might not be at the helm for Nigeria during AFCON 2027, as discussions over a new contract with the NFF remain ongoing and unresolved.

Head coach Eric Chelle has indicated that he may not be leading the team when AFCON 2027 begins, as his existing contract is set to conclude in January 2027.
Currently, negotiations between his representative and the NFF regarding a contract extension are still pending, with no agreement reached on the terms at this time.
This situation arises ahead of the upcoming match on Saturday, 30th May 2026, where the Super Eagles are scheduled to compete against Jamaica in the final of the 2026 Unity Cup.
Nigeria claimed the title in the 2025 Unity Cup by overcoming Jamaica 5–4 on penalties after a thrilling 2–2 draw at the Brentford Community Stadium in London.

In 2026, Nigeria will face Jamaica once more. The Super Eagles secured their spot in the Unity Cup final by defeating Zimbabwe 2–0, thanks to a brace from Femi Azeez.
