Public Backlash: Reactions to Thandeka Tshabalala’s Controversial Remarks

Man-Gale June 15, 2026 3 minutes read
Thandeka-Tshabalala

Gaining fame through Big Brother Mzansi brings significant attention, yet for emerging star Thandeka Tshabalala, it has also led to severe online harassment. In a remarkable development that has resonated throughout the entertainment industry, the well-known reality TV figure has formally engaged her legal representatives to halt the ongoing cyberbullying aimed at her public image.

A press release issued by her legal team on 9 June 2026 detailed the troubling scale of the abuse. The document unveiled a structured campaign on social media that is focused on “damaging the reputation and public image of our client.”

Her legal representatives stressed that the situation transcends typical online trolling, representing a calculated attack on her professional life. They identified three key aspects of the harassment:

  • A fraudulent Facebook profile was created in Thandeka’s name, quickly amassing over 60,000 followers
  • A coordinated WhatsApp group was formed to spread misleading and harmful information directly to businesses linked to the star
  • Individuals initiated a series of organized calls, emails, and online discussions targeting various companies, urging them to cease any potential business collaborations with her

Tshabalala’s legal counsel condemned the current climate of online aggression, reminding the audience that reality TV personalities are individuals with genuine lives and consequences stemming from such harassment.

“The coordinators of these malicious campaigns treat public personalities as fictional characters and/or entertainment, rather than human beings. Online harassment affects people’s integrity, health, well-being and career development. The abusive conduct against our client appears to be orchestrated rather than individual behaviour. The specific purpose is to interfere with our client’s professional relationships. Our client has suffered substantial financial loss and emotional harm.”

The legal representatives cautioned those responsible that they cannot shield themselves behind the guise of anonymity. They highlighted that both the fraudulent Facebook account and harmful WhatsApp groups can be traced through IP addresses and user identification, making clear that legal action is imminent.

“Our client will take appropriate legal steps to deal with these unlawful acts and to stand up to the perpetrators thereof.”

Public Reaction Divided Over Thandeka Tshabalala’s Statement

The statement was met with stark opposition from a segment of social media users. Detractors responded by claiming that Thandeka’s contentious demeanor during her time in the Big Brother Mzansi house has now come back to haunt her.

Some went so far as to assert that she does not deserve public sympathy, citing her previous treatment of fellow contestants on the show and interactions with those who challenge her outside the show.

kuttloanoo commented:

“Eish, it’s hard to empathise with this one.”

stan_fi remarked:

“She and her fans spent the entire after-show berating Multichoice. What did they think would happen? And they said she doesn’t want/ need brands, so she’ll be fine.”

Oratile_Mdingz expressed:

“No one tarnished her name. We watched her for 71 days. She’s horrible.”

I_am_AmmzY added:

“Her biggest downfall is her stans; they say vile things about other contestants on social media, no brand would want to associate itself with such.”

VanessaMaseko21 stated:

“Not a bone of sympathy in me, she did it to herself alongside her minions, and she still continues. Reality kicked in when she saw the man having some traction.”

CharleneBu59002 noted:

“She deserves it; she thought she was bigger than the program.”
