Amapiano Queens Dominate 2026 Basadi Music Awards Nominations

The Basadi in Music Awards (BIMA) 2026 is poised to be an important event celebrating women in South African entertainment, with Amapiano artists prominently featured in several major categories.

Scheduled for 7 and 8 August 2026 at the Joburg Theatre, this year’s ceremony marks its fifth year, commemorating the ongoing mission to recognize the achievements and impact of women in music. BIMA has progressively established itself as one of the nation’s leading platforms, honoring female talent while motivating the upcoming generation of artists and industry professionals.

This year’s nominations highlight the significant influence Amapiano has had on the domestic music industry, with numerous prominent figures from the genre receiving accolades across various categories.

Among the most fiercely contested categories is Amapiano Artist of the Year, showcasing some of the genre’s prominent names as they vie for the title. Nominees for this category include DBN Gogo, MaWhoo, Thathohatsi, Zee Nxumalo, Nkosazana Daughter, and Nobuhle, all of whom have had impressive years, releasing music that has struck a chord with fans both locally and abroad.

The DJ of the Year category underlines the rising presence of female Amapiano DJs, with global star Uncle Waffles and fellow artist DBN Gogo both receiving nominations, highlighting the genre’s significant impact on dance music worldwide.

Amapiano’s reach extends into broader categories as well. In the Song of the Year category, Zee Nxumalo, MaWhoo, and Kamo Mphela are recognized for their popular hits, which have resonated deeply with listeners.

In the Music Video of the Year segment, several artists connected with the Amapiano genre are featured, including Tyla, Nkosazana Daughter, and Kamo Mphela, whose creative videos have enhanced their musical presentations.

Additionally, Uncle Waffles has been nominated for Dance Music Artist of the Year, further solidifying her status as a leading DJ in Africa. Zee Nxumalo and MaWhoo also continue their strong showing with a nomination in the Collaboration of the Year category.

The Best Female Artist of the Year category includes MaWhoo, Mashudu, Nia Pearl, Boohle, and De Rose. Simultaneously, the sought-after Artist of the Year award will see Zee Nxumalo, Tyla, Nkosazana Daughter, and MaWhoo going head-to-head.

As August approaches, anticipation is building for the Basadi in Music Awards 2026. Celebrating five years of empowering and honoring women in the entertainment sector, Amapiano artists remain central to South Africa’s evolving musical narrative, demonstrating the genre’s ongoing importance in the future of African music.
