Softfootball reports that Manchester City has reached a significant agreement with Nottingham Forest for the transfer of England midfielder Elliot Anderson. The deal, valued at £116 million, makes him the most expensive British player ever.
The 23-year-old is set to undergo a medical examination in the United States, where he is currently part of the England squad competing in the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Anderson has reportedly preferred the move to the Etihad Stadium over interest from Manchester United, placing him among City’s top targets after the club had two previous bids turned down.
Evangelos Marinakis, the owner of Nottingham Forest, had previously stated that any bid must exceed the £125 million that Liverpool allegedly paid Newcastle United for Alexander Isak last summer. The agreement with City, worth £116 million, marks one of the most significant transfers this summer.

Anderson made the switch to Nottingham Forest from Newcastle United two years ago for £35 million, quickly becoming a key player in the Premier League. During his tenure at the City Ground, he was instrumental in Forest’s seventh-place finish in the league and their progression to the semi-finals of the Europa League. His performances earned him a spot in Thomas Tuchel’s England squad.
He has already played in England’s first two World Cup matches against Croatia and Ghana, emphasizing his increasing importance at both club and international levels.

Meanwhile, Manchester City aims to continue its active transfer window. Recent reports suggest that the Premier League team is also interested in Chelsea defender Malo Gusto, with incoming manager Enzo Maresca reportedly eager to bring the French full-back on board, having previously collaborated with him at Stamford Bridge.
If the Anderson transfer is finalized, it will underscore Manchester City’s commitment to bolstering its squad for the upcoming 2026/27 season.
