NASTY C INVITES FANS TO RECREATE THE ICONIC BAD HAIR COVER 10 YEARS LATER. A decade after Bad Hair introduced a young rapper from Durban to millions of listeners, Nasty C is celebrating this milestone by acknowledging the fans who played a crucial role in his journey.
NASTY C INVITES FANS TO RECREATE THE ICONIC BAD HAIR COVER 10 YEARS LATERThe renowned artist has launched Nasty X: The Fans Built This, a comprehensive campaign that commemorates a decade of music, memories, and steadfast support from his fans. This initiative, which began on June 21, seeks to engage fans as part of the narrative that has defined one of the most significant figures in African hip-hop.
Central to the campaign is nastycsa.com, an interactive platform where fans can recreate the classic Bad Hair album cover using their own images. This project transforms one of South Africa’s most famous album covers into a vibrant tribute to the community that has followed Nasty C from his rise to fame to his global achievements.
In conjunction with the launch, Nasty C has released a cinematic campaign film that retraces key moments in his career. The film uses his changing hairstyles as a visual narrative, charting his journey from an aspiring teenager in 2016 to an internationally recognized musician, while paying homage to the fans who have supported him throughout.
Reflecting on this milestone, Nasty C noted that the campaign honors those who helped turn his aspirations into reality.
“When I dropped Bad Hair, I was just a kid with a dream. Ten years later, I can look back and see how many people have been part of this story. Every stream, every show, every repost, every memory. The fans built this,” he stated.
Throughout the last decade, Nasty C has emerged as a leading figure in African music, achieving multi-platinum certifications, selling out concerts, collaborating with international artists, and performing at major festivals worldwide. Albums like Bad Hair and Strings & Bling have redefined the landscape of African hip-hop while cultivating a devoted global audience.
Ayanda Ngcobo, Nasty C’s manager and co-founder of Tall Racks, expressed that this anniversary warranted more than just a nostalgic social media reminder.
“This campaign has been designed as a multi-layered experience that allows fans to engage with the legacy in different ways. From the announcement film and fan-powered artwork to digital storytelling, real-world activations, and future experiences that will roll out over the coming weeks, every touchpoint has been built around one idea: the fans have always been part of this story.”
Ngcobo emphasized that while Nasty C’s journey represents one of the greatest success stories in South African music, it is also a tale influenced by thousands of supporters who believed in him from the start.
“Nasty X is our way of celebrating that contribution while creating something that feels modern, participatory and worthy of the moment. We’re celebrating ten years of Bad Hair, but we’re also setting the stage for the next chapter.”
Fans are now invited to visit the campaign website to upload their photos and join in creating a collective artwork that commemorates the ten-year legacy of Bad Hair. The campaign’s creative development and strategy have been led by the newly formed agency Society Studios.
