André Onana is returning to Trabzonspor for another season after Manchester United and Trabzonspor reached a verbal agreement regarding a new loan arrangement for the goalkeeper from Cameroon.
At the same time, Softfootball has reported that Manchester United’s rivals, Manchester City have reportedly secured a historic £116 million deal with Nottingham Forest for England midfielder Elliot Anderson, who had also been on United’s radar earlier in the summer.
This latest development follows the realization that Onana will not feature in Manchester United’s plans for the 2026/27 season under head coach Michael Carrick. Following a satisfactory prior loan stint, Trabzonspor acted swiftly to re-sign him, agreeing to pay a loan fee as they finalize the contractual details.

During his last season with Trabzonspor, Onana made 29 appearances after departing Old Trafford on loan, a move that followed Manchester United’s surprising EFL Cup exit to League Two’s Grimsby.
Onana was purchased from Inter Milan in 2023 for £47.2 million and still has two years left on his contract with Manchester United. However, with Senne Lammens having secured the first-choice position under Carrick, Onana recognizes that playing time at Old Trafford would be scarce.
He was expected to be back for pre-season training on July 9, but his move back to Trabzonspor now seems likely as both clubs work on finalizing the necessary documentation.
As Manchester United revamps their squad and City enhances their roster under new manager Enzo Maresca, both clubs are central to an active summer transfer period.
