Gogo Skhotheni, a reality TV star, DJ, and podcaster, has revealed her decision to completely withdraw from ubungoma, embracing a new phase focused on her spirituality, prayer, and personal identity.
At 34 years old, and known as Tumi Motsoeneng, she gained recognition through her show Gogo Skhotheni by sharing her experiences as a traditional healer. Skhotheni, who hails from Mbalenhle in Mpumalanga, made this heartfelt announcement during her guest appearance on Podcast and Chill with MacG, discussing the reasons behind her departure from the role of sangoma.
Reasons Behind Gogo Skhotheni’s Departure
During her interview, Gogo Skhotheni openly stated that her decision was not influenced by personal crises or disappointments but is rooted in a newfound understanding of her beliefs.
“I didn’t leave because there is something wrong with my life, I left because I know the truth.”
She shared that she now identifies as a woman of God and has ceased her activities as a traditional healer. Skhotheni noted that she no longer sees clients, conducts rituals, or uses bones for divination. She has disposed of her bones and other related items, marking a significant end to that part of her life.
Despite her departure from ubungoma, she respects her ancestors for their influence on her journey, although she believes her calling has evolved.
Emphasis on a Personal Journey
Throughout the discussion, Skhotheni consistently made it clear that she is not seeking to persuade others to follow her decisions. She emphasized that her spiritual path is a personal one and should not be interpreted as an opposition to traditional healing. She indicated that she is not seeking followers, as her journey is unique to her.
“I am not recruiting anyone. This is my journey and I will walk it alone because I saw God in my life walking alone,”
she stated.
In lieu of traditional healing, Skhotheni explained that she offers prayers to those who ask for her help. She clarified that prayer has become her main method of support, moving away from the practices tied to her previous role.
Focusing on Her DJ Career
Skhotheni went on to reveal that stepping away from ubungoma allows her to rediscover her identity beyond the persona that initially brought her fame.
“I want to do me, I want to be Tumi, take my DJ career seriously. I am not a sangoma and I am not going back to being one.”
She expressed excitement about dedicating herself to her music, podcasting, and various business initiatives, all while adhering to her faith. Anticipating diverse reactions from the public, Skhotheni affirmed her choice is definite and stems from a space of tranquility and conviction.
Responses flooded in from individuals commenting on her decision in the YouTube comments section.
