Fans in Uproar: MacG’s Supporters Allegedly Threaten Event Organizers

MacG rejects R20 million offer to sell Podcast and Chill!

Homecoming Events directors have allegedly sought recourse in the Johannesburg High Court by filing an urgent defamation suit against the hosts of Podcast and Chill: MacG, Sol Phenduka, and Ghost Lady. This legal action follows accusations made on the podcast stating that the event organisers concealed a rape incident to protect their reputation.

As reported by Africa Daily, Homecoming Events principals Oratile Sangweni and Athabile Ngxamngxa assert that the trio’s allegations have endangered their personal safety. The event coordinators indicated that they have experienced significant public backlash and direct threats stemming from claims that they have enabled sexual violence and obstructed justice.

“The applicants have been subjected to abuse and accused of enabling rape by members of the public. The first and second applicants have received threats from certain sections of the public arising directly from these allegations.”

The conflict originated from an episode of Podcast and Chill that aired on or around June 1, 2026. During this episode, the hosts alleged that a prominent DJ committed rape at an event in Sun City, claiming that the organisers intentionally concealed the matter for commercial gain.

Homecoming Events reject the claims

Sangweni and Ngxamngxa have strongly denied the allegations, describing them as false, malicious, and defamatory. They contend that the claims have not only placed them in a precarious situation but have also stripped them of their ability to enforce workplace standards. Additionally, they caution that ongoing falsehoods could deter corporate sponsors, venue partners, and artists from future collaborations.

Court documents indicate that tensions escalated after the podcasters supposedly disregarded a formal request from the event organisers’ legal counsel, demanding a full retraction and apology. Instead, the plaintiffs assert that the respondents chose to reiterate the defamatory remarks, highlighting what they categorize as “malicious intent.”

“The respondents have been obdurate in their refusal. In fact, they have repeated the statements. The repetition evidences malicious intent.”

The plaintiffs now seek an immediate order from the Johannesburg High Court to compel MacG, Sol Phenduka, and Ghost Lady to publicly apologize and withdraw their statements.
