Softfootball has reported that Tottenham Hotspur has come to terms with West Ham United for the acquisition of Mateus Fernandes in a significant £85 million transfer.
The midfielder from Portugal is set to undergo his medical examination as part of the final steps of the transfer, marking a new record for Spurs. The £85 million fee exceeds the club’s previous high of £65 million, which was paid to Bournemouth for Dominic Solanke in August 2024.
Manchester United also showed interest in signing the 21-year-old, but chose not to meet Tottenham’s valuation. The club was focused on acquiring players at a fair price and those who were fully committed to the move, while Fernandes’ interests remained uncertain during discussions.

Once the transfer is finalized, it will signify Tottenham’s continued commitment to improving their roster as they prepare for the upcoming season.
Despite challenges faced by the team, Fernandes has managed to shine individually, making him one of the most desirable midfielders available.
