Chelsea has committed to the future of promising academy striker Jesse Derry and has arranged for the teenager to join Sporting CP on loan for the next two seasons.
Softfooball reports that this decision follows Como’s temporary halt in their efforts to acquire Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah. Conversations between Como president Mirwan Suwarso and Inter Milan president Giuseppe Marotta are ongoing as both Serie A clubs evaluate the defender’s options, with Inter emerging as a serious contender for his transfer.
The 19-year-old has put pen to paper on a new long-term deal with Chelsea, with the extension reportedly finalized in early July amid interest from Bayern Munich and Juventus.

Derry will now play for Sporting CP during the 2026/27 and 2027/28 seasons, remaining in Portugal until June 2027. Chelsea will be responsible for the entirety of the player’s salary while he is on loan, and significantly, the arrangement does not include an option to buy.
This deal reflects Chelsea’s confidence in Derry’s future potential, with the club considering the loan as an essential opportunity for the young striker to gain important first-team experience before returning to Stamford Bridge.
