Recent details have surfaced regarding the October 2023 shooting incident in Sandton, which was directed at media figure Tebogo Thobejane. According to reports, SAPS spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe has confirmed that an 18-year-old girl has been left permanently disabled after being struck by stray bullets during the chaotic event.
The announcement was made on Monday, 20 July 2026, following Tebogo’s appearance in court to witness proceedings against Cat Matlala. This trial has drawn renewed public scrutiny, particularly since the young victim was significantly younger at the time of the shooting in 2023. According to Inside Out News SA on X, Tebogo returned to the site of the shooting during the trial, sharing how profoundly the experience has impacted her.
Thobejane has accused her former partner, businessman Vusimizi “Cat” Matlala, of masterminding the assassination attempt on her life. After his apprehension, she publicly addressed the situation in a statement.
In her comments, she elaborated on the emotional strain the shooting has inflicted upon her, including the challenge of facing the families of other victims caught in the incident.
Mzansi has voiced opinions on the developments in Tebogo’s situation:
@BrownOxx stated: “I want Cat Matlala in prison, but this Tebogo Thobejane baddie must spare us, please. I am sorry, but this woman will never be a victim to me, and I believe she knows much more than she has told investigators, but is overplaying the assassination victim card.”
@Ndaba_2025 remarked: “She must also be arrested; these buddies eat corruption money, and when tabs dry out, they become victims.”
