The journey towards the 2026 Red Bull BC One South Africa National Final has commenced, marked by B-Boy Barshie’s triumph at the Red Bull BC One Cypher Johannesburg on Sunday, securing the inaugural qualifying position of the year.
As the premier one-on-one breaking contest globally, Red Bull BC One assembles the nation’s top dancers to compete where routines are not scripted, and playlists are not set in advance—only genuine talent, creativity, musical interpretation, and performance are judged by a distinguished panel.
For Barshie, this victory signifies more than just an advancement to the next round; it marks a significant moment for a community that seldom receives such substantial opportunities.
“We don’t really have a lot of competitions like this in South Africa, so this was really good,” he remarked following his success. “I prepared despite having a busy schedule, and I also really enjoyed watching all the other dancers.”
Looking ahead, Barshie is not pausing. His attention has already turned towards the National Final.
“I’m just going to keep training harder,” he stated.
In the women’s division, B-Girl Baylie stood out, taking the top spot after a remarkable performance where she faced off against the B-Boys as the lone female participant in the cypher. Rather than viewing it as a setback, Baylie welcomed the challenge.
“It felt necessary to do it. The breaking scene is always changing, so I want to stay in it as much as I can,” she indicated.
