Netflix’s trending telenovela The Polygamist has proven to be transformative for its cast, with both lead actors, Sdumo Mtshali and Gugu Gumede, achieving noteworthy career milestones amidst the show’s rising acclaim.
Mtshali, who portrays businessman Jonasi Gomora, recently became a brand ambassador for Mazda South Africa. The announcement was made on social media on 24 July 2026, where he shared his excitement with fans.

While Mtshali celebrated this new venture, Gumede had her own achievement to announce. The actress, who plays Joyce Gomora, Jonasi’s wife in the series, is the feature of True Love magazine’s July–September 2026 issue. Wearing a stunning outfit by Gert-Johan Coetzee, Gumede is now available on newsstands, with the magazine stating she “opens up like never before.”

The Polygamist debuted on Netflix on 12 June and rapidly became one of the platform’s most viewed programs. In its first month, the 22-episode series garnered over 23 million views, entered Netflix’s Top 10 in 62 countries, and achieved the number one position in various regions.
Based on the 2012 novel of the same name by Zimbabwean author Sue Nyathi, the series chronicles the life of Jonas Gomora, whose world begins to unravel as the women in his life vie for his affection, fidelity, and wealth.
