The Soweto Media Resource Centre (SMRC), operating as Jozi FM 105.8, has announced the suspension of its Chief Executive Officer, Mpho Mhlongo.
In light of this development, Collen Hans has been appointed as the Acting Chief Executive Officer. This change in leadership was communicated via an internal memo from the Board Chairperson, Rapitse Montsho.
As indicated in the board’s Resolution BR/2026/24, dated August 10, 2026, Mhlongo’s suspension took effect immediately. Hans stepped into the role of Acting CEO the same day and will hold the position until further notice. The board emphasized that this quick adjustment is meant to maintain the smooth operation of the station.
This decision is part of efforts to ensure that the broadcasting station adheres to certain regulatory standards, as per ICASA TOR 5.1.3(c) and a recent High Court Order issued on July 21, 2026.
With the new leadership in place, the board has established operational guidelines for SMRC employees, volunteers, and presenters:
Direct Reporting: All operational inquiries, approvals, and external communications should be sent to Hans.
Signing Authority: Hans will serve as the sole official signatory for the station during this interim phase.
Staff Cooperation: The board has requested that all team members fully support Hans throughout this transition period.
Even with this rapid change in executive leadership, the board assured stakeholders of its strong commitment to effective corporate governance and full adherence to regulatory requirements. The organization remains dedicated to preparing for its upcoming Elective Annual General Meeting (AGM), set to occur on or before September 21, 2026.
The memorandum concluded with appreciative remarks from the leadership, thanking the internal staff for their ongoing commitment and service to Jozi FM 105.8. The document was officially signed by Chairperson Montsho and Director Dr. Thulani Mhlongo, with a copy sent to Carol Dyantyi.
