The Gqom music scene in South Africa is on the verge of a significant event as renowned artists Goldmax, Dankie Boi, and Blacks Jnr are set to celebrate the remarkable Platinum status of their collaborative album, New Wave, released in 2025.
Since its debut, this acclaimed album has exceeded expectations by amassing over 19 million streams on various digital platforms.
This achievement solidifies New Wave’s position as one of the most commercially successful Gqom albums in the last six years.
Additionally, it distinguishes itself as a pivotal moment in South African music history, being only the second Gqom album to achieve official Platinum certification. The album’s success is underscored by hit singles, “Shona Phansi” and “Asisho Sonke,” each attaining individual Platinum recognition.
This milestone will be celebrated at a private dinner event aimed at reflecting on the incredible journey of the project.
The origin of New Wave dates back to 2021, when the creative collaboration between Dankie Boi and Goldmax began.
The musical concept expanded in 2024 with the inclusion of Blacks Jnr, leading to the trio’s groundbreaking 2025 release. The celebration is expected to attract a prominent group of artists, industry professionals, music promoters, and essential collaborators.
Guests will hear special insights and remarks from leading figures in the industry, including Africori’s Yoann Chap, Aionic, DJ Tira, Zamani Ndimande, and Portia Elle. The evening’s focal point will be the official presentation of the Platinum Plaque, recognizing the trio’s significant contributions to South African music history.
Following the ceremony, the artists will express their gratitude, accompanied by lively performances from the New Wave trio, Bhuwa, and renowned house music artist TNS.
This event signifies more than just a celebration of an album; it showcases the continued evolution, strength, and global impact of Gqom music within the electronic music sphere.
