Cassper Reflects On SAMA32 Hosting Debut: “It Wasn’t Perfect”The rapper, hailing from North West, co-hosted the 32nd South African Music Awards at the Sun City Superbowl Saturday evening alongside 5FM’s Zanele Potelwa. Following the event, Cassper Nyovest shared his thoughts on social media, acknowledging that everything didn’t go smoothly, but he genuinely enjoyed the night.

For Nyovest, this event marked a noteworthy shift, given his complex history with the SAMAs. After nearly ten years filled with scrutiny and boycotts, he returned in a prominent role as the host for the “Homecoming Edition.”
His collaboration with Potelwa suited the evening’s theme well, as Nyovest symbolized the spirit of a local star welcoming the SAMAs back to the North West, while Potelwa brought her vibrant energy to a night themed around “The Future Sounds Like Now Now.”
Together, they managed to keep the event moving through musical performances, award presentations, and a range of unscripted live moments. Nyovest also showcased his musical talent by performing alongside Lordkez, a highlight of the night.
His introduction to hosting garnered various reactions from viewers and fellow musicians, with many praising his charisma and stage presence. Some even suggested the SAMAs consider having him host again in the future.
The ceremony itself featured significant accolades, including Gospel artist HLE winning Album of the Year for The Ground We’re On in addition to Female Artist of the Year. Mzukulu claimed Male Artist of the Year, while Tyla was recognized with the AfriPure International Achievement Award for a second time.
Tyla used her acceptance speech to advocate for African unity, inviting other artists to join her on stage, adding another notable moment to a ceremony that highlighted the continent’s rich musical diversity.
Oskido, a veteran music executive and artist, received the Lifetime Achievement Award, dedicating this honor to the late Lebo Mathosa.
From gospel and amapiano to maskandi and traditional sounds, SAMA32 displayed the variety of South African music while Nyovest found himself at the forefront of a new chapter in his relationship with the awards.
Previously, the rapper had expressed a desire to reconcile with the SAMAs and appreciate the chance to follow the paths of past hosts. Throughout the evening, however, the focus shifted from history to celebration.
