A constable from the Tshwane Metro Police Department has been taken into custody on suspicion of participating in a fraud and money-laundering operation involving R1.75 million related to a deceased estate.

This officer, identified as the second accused in the case, was apprehended by the Limpopo Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation unit on Friday, 14 August 2026, in Sunnyside, Pretoria.

Investigators suggest that the alleged misconduct began on 28 October 2024. On that date, the first accused, who is a lawyer and spouse of the sergeant, reportedly executed unauthorized transfers from a trust account connected to the estate bank account of the late Mr. Masha at FNB.

On the same day, two transactions were reportedly made, totaling R1.75 million, moving estate funds into McCarthy Mercedes-Benz Wonderboom’s Standard Bank account.

The amounts involved included R1.65 million and R100,000, which were allegedly associated with the acquisition of a pre-owned Mercedes-Benz AMG G63.

Investigators noted discrepancies between the names of the intended vehicle purchasers and those listed in the deceased estate’s records, which prompted further scrutiny of the transactions.

It is claimed that both accused worked together with the intent to obtain the luxury vehicle using the estate’s funds, which rightfully belong to its beneficiaries.

Additionally, investigators reportedly found that the first accused approved and initiated a payment of R1.65 million from the estate’s account directly to the dealership.

The Hawks alleged that around R1.75 million was withdrawn illegally from the estate, with portions of the allegedly misappropriated funds being deposited into the bank account of the second accused.

The funds were purportedly laundered through this account, harming the estate and its rightful beneficiaries.

Once the investigation concluded, the case file was forwarded to the State Advocate for prosecutorial advice.

Consequently, warrants for the accused were issued.

The second accused made a court appearance at the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 17 August 2026.

Meanwhile, the first accused remains at large, with the Hawks indicating ongoing efforts to locate her.

As per legal standards, the accused is entitled to a presumption of innocence until proven guilty in a court of law.
