British-Ghanaian music producer and singer-songwriter ginius has unveiled her new project titled “Here’s Where We Once Were, the most intimate collection of music she has released so far.
The album features a mix of Afro R&B, Amapiano, and ginius’ unique “afro blend” style; an energetic fusion of Ghanaian Highlife, contemporary Afropop, and R&B. It showcases contributions from Insvne Auggie on tracks like “Love Me Softly”, “Woman”, “Different (Remix)”, and “So You Do”; Joker on “Test Drive”; Okukuseku the Bang Machine on “Lost & Numb”; and KFM Dadaba on “Time & Attention”, a song that originally started as a freestyle, mixed and mastered by Van Boied.
According to ginius:
“This is probably the realest tape I ever wrote. Some of the songs I have written prior to this I had not lived but this is a tape that every part has once been my reality. It’s the beginning of the end; simply put.“
Throughout this project, ginius explores the different phases of a relationship, from initial attraction to disbelief to the quiet contemplation of its conclusion. The work illuminates the entire spectrum of love, reflecting ginius’s belief that love inevitably concludes, whether through a breakup or the loss of a loved one. What is significant is how one chooses to retain those memories.
ginius has developed her distinctive style by remaining closely tied to her heritage. Beyond just performing or producing, she serves as a producer for other artists, designing soundscapes that resonate with her dedicated audience, the Copilots.
