The CEO of Mahikeng FM, Karabo Kgokong, notes that this initiative is aligned with the station’s duty to foster the development of the community it serves.
“This initiative speaks directly to the station’s responsibility to its home. We were born out of this spirit, and we have a responsibility to contribute to the advancement of our home, not simply by celebrating its history, but by creating opportunities for its future. We have an opportunity to use the platforms, reach and influence of Mahikeng FM to contribute meaningfully to the development of our community, while creating spaces for our people to participate in shaping the future of Mahikeng.”
Once, Mahikeng offered numerous creative and academic outlets for children, with local businesses actively supporting initiatives that enhanced community engagement and job opportunities.
Although the city has continued to progress, there remains an opportunity to enhance the bond between culture, creativity, commerce, and community growth.
Mahikeng FM aims to play an active role in this area, recognizing the creative economy as a significant pathway for artistic innovation, talent growth, entrepreneurship, and economic engagement, especially as the community faces ongoing unemployment challenges.
“#MakeMaftownGreatAgain is not simply about hosting events. It is about creating an ecosystem. The initiative creates opportunities for businesses, brands, artists, entrepreneurs, government, development organisations and community stakeholders to participate in strengthening Mahikeng’s creative economy and reclaiming a strong creative legacy that Maftwonians are known for,” says Chief Growth Officer, Mmamutle Moche.
Mahikeng FM possesses a distinctive position as it operates at the convergence of media, community, culture, and business. #MakeMaftownGreatAgain provides an opportunity to leverage that position more purposefully to foster partnerships, develop platforms, and connect individuals and concepts to opportunities that can create a lasting impact.
As a prominent community radio station in the North West, Mahikeng FM continually adapts alongside its audience while maintaining a strong connection to its community responsibilities.
#MakeMaftownGreatAgain signifies the station’s dedication to going beyond merely narrating Mahikeng’s story; it represents an active engagement in shaping its future.
