DJ Kwame, a South African producer, DJ, and narrative architect, is preparing to unveil his eagerly awaited second single, “Izwi Lendoda”, a compelling collaboration with TomyV that addresses persistent social inequalities through the framework of contemporary electronic music.
Featuring a robust 3-Step sound signature, this track offers a daring critique of the current societal tendency to evaluate a man’s value based on his financial status.
The lyrics delve into the stark truth of how men lacking financial resources or social influence are often disregarded and muted, while those with wealth and power attract immediate attention and respect.
Combining a mesmerizing danceable beat with poignant lyrics, “Izwi Lendoda” encourages listeners to contemplate the biases and daily injustices that continue to exist within various communities.
Born Kwame Nkrumah Mahlanga in Ivory Park near Midrand, this Afrotech and house music artist has consistently established himself as more than just someone spinning tracks at events.
Rather, he perceives his art as a medium of cultural expression aimed directly at addressing the challenges and victories of ordinary people.
His musical journey traces back to his high school years when a companion introduced him to the legendary Club Y compilations curated by DJ Fresh on Y-FM.
Inspired by icons like the late Fana Khaba (Khabzela), DJ Monde, Glen Lewis, Oskido, and DJ Mbuso, Kwame sought a diploma in radio practice.
He subsequently evolved from being a technical producer at Hillbrow Community Radio to crafting prominent shows at Kaya FM, which included The Uncaptured, KayaBiz, and Today with John Perlman.
Kwame first made his mark across Southern Africa in 2015 with the launch of his House Devotions mixtape series, which led to performances in Zimbabwe, Mozambique, and Botswana.
He further developed his discography in 2020 with the release of his debut EP and the hit single “Abana Mali”, a collaboration with singer Mthandazo Gatya. “Izwi Lendoda” provides a second glimpse into DJ Kwame’s upcoming studio project set for a formal release this September.
This project is meticulously crafted to stretch creative boundaries, offering music that seamlessly transitions from the dance floor to serving as a platform for significant social dialogue.
With this latest single, DJ Kwame and TomyV remind us that every person’s voice is worthy of attention, regardless of their economic or social status.
