Ouaddou Cautions Pirates’ Rising Stars After MTN8 Triumph

Ouaddou Urges Pirates' Young Talents to Stay Grounded Following MTN8 Victory

Mpho Padime made a noteworthy debut for Orlando Pirates, showcasing his individual skill. Despite the growing excitement surrounding this young talent, coach Abdeslam Ouaddou has emphasized that this single strong performance marks just the start of his journey.

Padime stepped onto the pitch for the first time as the Buccaneers triumphed over Sekhukhune United with a score of 3-0, earning a spot in the MTN8 final.

The teenager quickly attracted the attention of the fans at Orlando Stadium due to his poise and impressive ball control. His ability to manage the ball under pressure contributed to the buildup of Pirates’ third goal.

For a newcomer to one of South Africa’s foremost clubs, his debut was certainly a memorable occasion.

Nevertheless, Ouaddou aims to keep the focus on development rather than on premature accolades.

The coach also acknowledged another young player, Simphiwe Masilela, who has made four appearances this season, including two starts.

Ouaddou recognizes the potential in both players but insists that their advancement hinges on their efforts off the field.

“Not only him (Padime), I think we can include Masilela in the talk. Well done to both of them. I think Pirates is a club that is giving chances to the young,” Ouaddou said.

“It’s not the first time that Pirates promote youngsters, and we continue the process. They did very well; we saw they have great potential.”

Ouaddou’s caution to young players

The French-Moroccan coach understands that the landscape of football can shift quickly, especially for younger players who suddenly find themselves in the limelight.

His advice to Padime and Masilela is straightforward: remain humble.

“Now, they must keep on working; they must keep on being humble, listening, and being coachable. It’s only the first games. A career is a minimum of 10 years.”

Ouaddou emphasized that chances at Pirates must be earned through effort and commitment.

He mentioned he would provide the youngsters with more playing time whenever the opportunity arises, but only if they maintain the right attitudes in training.

“When I have an opportunity to give them game time, I will definitely give it to them. But they must still work and be very professional because in football you can go high quickly, but you can fall quickly as well.”

‘Consider your career’

For Ouaddou, safeguarding a young player’s career involves more than just training routines.

He urged them to make prudent life choices and refrain from actions that could hinder their progress.

“They must be careful about their life. You have to be professional. Think football, you train, you go home, you rest,” he said.

“You eat well, you drink water and not something else. Don’t smoke, don’t take things that can destroy your body. Think about your career.”

The coach concluded with a focus on a crucial attribute he believes can distinguish aspiring young players from seasoned professionals.

“Work, work, work.”

For Padime and Masilela, the task ahead extends beyond simply making an impression in their next match. They need to demonstrate that they can manage the expectations that come with playing for Pirates while continuing their development into seasoned professionals.

Their moment has arrived. Ouaddou is keen to ensure they make the most of it.
