Newcastle United has announced that Lewis Hall has extended his contract with the club, ensuring the left-back will remain at St James’ Park until 2031.
The 22-year-old has signed a two-year extension to his previous agreement, reflecting his impressive growth since joining Newcastle from Chelsea in 2023.
Softfootball reported earlier that Manchester United had expressed interest in Hall, with the club evaluating options for their left-back position.
Despite this interest, Newcastle has acted to secure the defender’s long-term status, as Hall pledges his future to the club he has supported since childhood.
Following the signing of his new contract, Hall expressed that it was a “really proud” moment and emphasized the special bond he shares with Newcastle and the fans.
It’s an absolute pleasure to play for this club and to represent the supporters
Hall stated.
I know how much it means to them. To be able to bring joy to their faces, it’s a big thing for me. I obviously have a family connection with the club, which is incredibly important to us all.
One of the main reasons I play is to make my family proud, and I know how much it means to them to watch me playing for Newcastle United.
Since his arrival from Chelsea, Hall has made 106 appearances for Newcastle, transforming from a developing young left-back to an essential component of the team.
Newcastle manager Matthias Jaissle believes Hall still has considerable potential for improvement and regards him as a key figure in the club’s long-term vision.
His mentality is exactly what you want in a young player
Jaissle remarked.
He wants to learn every day and he wants to be better in every match.
Lewis covers ground in a way that few players can. He defends with maturity and intelligence, and his technical level means he can support the team higher up the pitch.
What excites me most is that I believe the best is still to come from Lewis.

Hall’s contributions in attack have become one of his standout attributes.
This season, he has already notched two assists and remains a vital attacking option from the left flank.
His performance stats from the previous season further illustrate his offensive capabilities. Among full-backs who played at least 900 Premier League minutes, Hall excelled in metrics such as high-speed and underlapping runs per game, while also ranking among the top three in completed dribbles per match.
There have also been instances where Hall has shown his defensive prowess against top-tier opponents. At his best, the Newcastle defender has effectively neutralized key attackers, including managing to contain Barcelona star Lamine Yamal during a Champions League match.
While there is still progress to be made defensively, his overall growth has made him an increasingly significant asset for Newcastle.
Hall will now aim to continue his advancement under Jaissle and work towards regaining a place in the England squad after being absent from the World Cup.
With his contract extending to 2031, Newcastle clearly views Hall as an integral part of their future plans, while Manchester United and other interested parties will have to redirect their attention elsewhere for a left-back solution.
