Formal Farewell: S’bo Gyre Bids Adieu with ‘I Quit (9.2.5)’

Formal Farewell: S’bo Gyre Departs with a Bold 'I Quit (9.2.5)'

I QUIT (9.2.5) encapsulates a common desire among employees: shutting down the laptop, ignoring the calendar invites, and declaring “enough is enough.” S’BO channels this sentiment into Zulu electronic pop-rap, where large-scale synth melodies merge with dramatic rap styles, futuristic rhythms, and reinterpreted Zulu protest chants. The outcome is intentionally extravagant — a mix of corporate burnout, a Friday night escape, and an encouragement to embrace the fallout through dance. Collaborating with Yolophonik and Audio Addicts, the album turns workplace exhaustion into a festive experience.

To the discomfort of human resources, the humor does reflect a reality. After spending years in public relations, marketing, sports, and entertainment, S’BO has stepped away from full-time employment to focus more on music, performance, writing, and independent creative endeavors. In line with this transition, he took the logical step of transforming the act of resigning into something to dance to.

S’BO has been recognized in the Mail & Guardian’s list of 200 Young South Africans for 2025, featured in the documentary Young, Gifted & Queer, and has both co-written and performed in Nkoli: Fierce & Fabulous. His resume includes performances at Back to the City, Basha Uhuru, Boiler Room, and Jägermeister Night Embassy, in addition to international gigs. Currently, management has advised him not to elaborate on post-resignation matters. It appears there are protocols in place.Meetings may be on the agenda.Exit interviews might occur.A severance package could even be involved.Further updates are forthcoming.
