Dusse Wavy is reflecting on a transformative song as he announces the completion of his upcoming album. As the one-year anniversary of the release of “Usebenzile” approaches, the KwaZulu-Natal artist shared insights on social media regarding the influence of the song and provided an update on his next project.
“A year ago today, ‘Usebenzile.’ changed my life,” he expressed. “Forever grateful. My album is complete. God is great.” He also extended his gratitude to the uMfaz’ Omnyama family and Antiseptic RSA for their support in the musical process, particularly acknowledging Antiseptic for their mixing expertise.
Released in September 2025, “Usebenzile” showcased a new dimension of Dusse Wavy’s artistry. Prior to this track, his music primarily fell within the realm of hip-hop and rap. His 2023 album The Shit Show was categorized as Hip-Hop/Rap, followed by 23:24 in 2024 and ISIMO in 2025, which also adhered to this classification.
“Usebenzile” marked a departure from his rap-centric style, transitioning Dusse Wavy into a gentler R&B genre. The song also featured an interpolation of uMfaz’ Omnyama’s “Ngisebenzile Mama,” effectively linking Dusse Wavy’s fresh R&B approach with a recognizable Maskandi classic.
The artist has referred to this innovative direction as “RnBhinca,” explaining that it represents R&B tailored for AmaBhinca. Following its launch, the song’s popularity surged, with Spotify reporting over 1.2 million streams for the original track. The acoustic version has achieved more than 340,000 streams on the platform.
This growing interest in the song led to the release of the four-track USEBENZILE EP in December 2025. This project included “Usebenzile,” “Nguye,” “Zandile,” and the acoustic variant of the title track. The EP also secured a spot on the Apple Music R&B/Soul Top Albums chart, where Dusse Wavy noted its ranking among the top South African releases during that period.
Dusse Wavy continued to explore R&B in 2026 with his contribution to High_Rising_MJ and Ovuyonke’s “uThando,” featured on the Love & RnB EP.
With the new album now finalized, Dusse Wavy is transitioning from the success that popularized his RnBhinca style into a comprehensive body of work. Although he has yet to announce the album’s title or release date, this completion signals a new phase in the musical journey that began with “Usebenzile” a year ago.
