Acclaimed South African hip hop artist Loki is set to make a comeback with a collaboration, revealing his upcoming single Chelete featuring the renowned SA hip hop figure Khuli Chana. The track is slated for release on Friday, 25 September 2026, advancing the rapper’s preparations for his next studio album.
Loki disclosed the release date and artwork to his fans on Instagram, providing a glimpse of the forthcoming track. The announcement also conveyed the concept behind the song, highlighting a time when music fostered a sense of community.
“Some moments feel bigger than music. This Friday, we bring back a feeling we haven’t felt in a while — that pre-COVID energy. When the streets felt different, music felt communal, and every new record felt like an EVENT. Lokish x @khulichana01 Different era. Same hunger. CHELETE. 25.09.26. A new chapter. A shift in the sound. We outside again. 🥶,” Loki remarked, framing Chelete as a means to reconnect with a pre-COVID atmosphere when music played a significant communal role and new releases were treated with excitement.
The impending release is positioned as Loki’s second official single leading up to his next studio project. This follows the rapper’s eight-track album MOB, which debuted on 18 June and features tracks such as BIG DAWG and 2BY2. Loki has also been chronicling his progress in the Before The Album vlog series, detailing his preparation for the next stage of his career.
Chelete also strengthens the artistic bond between Loki and Khuli Chana. The two previously collaborated on DJ Rico’s track Asambe Nana, making this new release another collaboration between well-established voices in South African hip hop.
For Loki, the new single represents a pivotal moment while remaining anchored to the essence that has defined him as an artist. Hailing from Mtwalume and raised in Durban, the rapper has gained prominence through his vibrant lyricism and energetic performances, subsequently establishing an independent career. His work embodies a strong connection to genuine storytelling within South African hip hop culture.
The title Chelete, which translates to money in Sotho, adds depth to a song that sits at the crossroads of ambition, street culture, and a renewed creative perspective. With Khuli Chana featured, this release unites two artists who share distinct backgrounds yet have a common link to the hip hop genre.
Set to launch on 25 September, Chelete offers fans another installment in Loki’s evolving album narrative. With MOB and Asambe Nana already contributing to his journey, the upcoming single places Loki and Khuli Chana at the forefront of this new chapter.
